Subject: Day 11

It’s Thursday evening (the sun’s still up) and very pleasant on the ocean. I think we have reached the trade winds. Very tropical and comfortable. We are now far enough west that we have shifted a two time zones even though the ship is still running on PDT. We won’t switch to Hawaiian time till we get there. It makes for a late sunset and late sunrise.
The biggest even onboard today was showers for everyone! It hard to describe how good it feels to have clean hair and wash the countless layers of sun block off. We have all been doing a good job of keeping clean, but there is nothing like a shower. Having a water maker onboard is a real luxury. Everyone feels a lot better. We waited till the afternoon so we would have to put on more sun block till tomorrow.
We are starting to think more about when we will arrive on Oahu. While it is very nice at sea the the moment, we have a strong desire to see land and green again. From personal experience the first time I did this trip, arriving at Kaneohe Bay on Oahu is a wonderful landfall. After two weeks on the ocean it like arriving in paradise, so it’s hard to not anticipate it. We are also looking to seeing the people who flew over to meet us.
