Well we are still out here, unfortunately not halfway yet though. Winds got really light today so we are making far below our max speed with the light air spinnaker up. The GPS on the desk says “1,216 nautical miles to waypoint.” The total official straight line distance is 2,070 nautical miles, so 181 miles till halfway! yikes, that’s a long way….
The good news is that we are all getting used to the boat, and getting pretty good at spinnaker handling as well. With so many chutes to choose from we are getting pretty good at taking them down and putting them back up again.
The coolest thing about today is that we have had another boat in sight all day! They are behind us (though they left a day after us so in the standings that would make them in front of us) about a mile or two, with a big pink chute and a fancy looking black mainsail. We expect if winds pick up they will pass us, as they are a J35, a much lighter boat, but it’s nice to have something on the horizon other than waves and clouds.
